I spoke to a friend a while back , march of 2008 . She had asked for a huge favour . She asked if I could photograph her to help her get a job . I said " sure , at no cost " . The reason for that was because I still was not 100 % sure if I wanted to start and run my own business for my photography . I took the challenge , which was a challenge due to the nature of the shoot . Not to mention the camera I was using at the time was not the kind of camera you should be using to take professional looking photos with ! I was scared , fearful that I would not capture what my friend was truly looking for in hope she would get the job she had in fact applied for . So she came over bright an early , not only that but from out of town . We began going over some of the ideas I already had for her , but came across another funny but yet workable idea . I said " would you like to see if you can fit into my wedding dress and see what happens ? " . She responded , " Ummm, Roxanne , your dress is gonna be really tiny on me , what can we do about that , as I am so up for that ! " . Sure enough we found a solution to the issue and started shooting !
As the day went on we enjoyed hanging out and doing something we had both loved to do . She began to tell me all about what her goals were , as I did the same . We loved 2 different expressions of art . Her type of personality showed that she was not shy at all .... that could be due to our friendship .
The ideas and the car ventures seem to have no end , we had to stop for lunch and warm up . She and I were talking about what I had planned to do with my work . If I was going to finally open up to the public and offer my service . I told her that I intended on doing so ..... But I was on the shy side and unsure if it was really worth my time and effort . I had also mentioned that being my first Non Paying Customer that I would decide after I had all the right gear . As lunch was coming to an end she mentioned the graffiti wall . Which happen to be just down the street from where we had lunch . Upon getting there the sun was perfect not to mention the area felt like there was no cold breeze .
After that spot there was one that I had thought of . It is a bridge that I used to NEVER walk over due to the fear of heights . But I was thinking that if I truly wanted to do what I love most , which is take photographs of people , then I would have to concur some ultimate fears of mine ! Sure enough we arrived at the location . As I suspected fear was really setting in . None the less I didn't show it . I made sure I was doing what I loved and capture the photos I needed to capture . I did it !
With the day was coming to an end , we were tired , cold and very excited to see how the out come would be once we returned home . I begun uploading . I was full of emotion , and right then and there I new that this was what I truly wanted to do with my life !
I couldn't express the feelings running so rapidly through my entire body . As the finishing touches were being made to the package I called my friend right away . When she came over to view the cd she was receiving , she was amazed and couldn't believe what I had taken of her . Within a few days after the shoot she handed in her portfolio in hopes she would get the job she wanted to get . Sure enough I received a email from her . She got the job !! She had other photographers in the past take photos of her but never was able to get any jobs she applied for until she shot with me .
I then was on the hunt for a new camera ! I found one that I liked and could afford . As the months have pasted , I have discovered that I want bigger and better already . I don't really need something new now , since my camera is not even 9 months old . I do intend to get bigger and better over a short period of time ! As a person who has been through her fair share of gear , I continue to push for the best ! As the same when I photograph people in the journey of life . I thank you so much for helping me seek what I have been lacking in my job aspect of life . Much gratitude goes to you my friend !
Imprinting photographs for life !
